It’s excellent news that employees are being welcomed back into their offices across Melbourne. Even if it’s only for a few days a week, things are starting to return to life as we knew it.
Most businesses were well prepared to bring their staff back on board. As commercial cleaners, we’ve been kept super busy with commercial office premises cleaning to ensure workspaces are clean and ready.
But one thing a lot of businesses often overlook are their outdoor areas.
While the Melbourne weather still turns on some lovely days, you’ll find your staff may want to venture outside during breaks, lapping up the sun and the fresh air. Remember that we all got used to being at home and wandering out whenever we wanted!
And many commercial places will also be getting customers returning, so you want to make sure they’re getting a good overall picture of your business.
1. Windows, glass doors, skylights and mirrors
If your office or factory has been empty for a while, it’s no doubt your windows will be a tad dirty and probably have a few spider webs in the corners. Hence cleaning windows of your commercial building is essential before your employees return to office.
You don’t want employees gazing out windows thinking, ‘Ewww, this is so dirty’, or customers approaching your front glass doors and not being able to see through the dirt!
And the same goes for all your internal glass windows or walls and mirrors. They should sparkle and be cleaned regularly, along with keeping up the cleanliness and sanitisation of your workplace.
2. Gutter cleaning
So many people forget about cleaning out their gutters until they’ve noticed that it’s either overflowing and hitting the ground below or causing an internal roof leak and resulting ceiling stain.
Now is the perfect time to get your gutters cleaned out. Before the heavy rains of winter hit and blocked gutters become an issue, make sure you’ve got all the debris removed – from leaves and sticks through to birds dropping all sorts of weird things (you’d be surprised!).
Overflowing gutters may cause outdoor flooding, which, depending on the area it’s hitting, may become an OH&S issue. E.g., if your overflowing gutter creates a puddle on your walkway and an employee or visitor slips, it won’t be too favourable for your company.
3. Outdoor areas and walkways
Pressure washing your outdoor areas is a great way to spruce them up – removing dirt, grime and bird droppings and making them look fresh.
As we’ve all become used to fresh air being good for us, you may find your employees will want to stay outside during their breaks. Providing them with a welcoming, clean, and fresh outdoor area will help them transition back into the office routine. They’ll feel they have a relaxing space to get a breath of fresh air away from the indoor areas.
Pressure washing of paths and driveways is also a great way to make the outside of your commercial premises look clean and inviting. Pressure washing will ensure there are no things like gum, animal droppings, grease or grime that people won’t appreciate stepping on.
Do people really look at your windows?
Yes! People will notice dirty glass – especially things like mirrors, internal windows or glass entry doors. And your employees won’t want to be sitting back in an office environment, staring out the window at the lovely day outside through a dirty window!
And remember, it’s more than just the dirt on your windows.
Nothing screams, ‘I haven’t been cleaned for ages’ more than cobwebs! If your windows have been left alone long enough for spiders to spin their webs, well it’s time to get them cleaned.
