Let’s be honest – no one really loves cleaning their home.

It’s one of those things that must be done, but sometimes, finding the motivation to get started and do house cleaning is hard!

There are so many other things you’d prefer to be doing, that’s for sure.

But, when you know some professional cleaner’s tricks of the trade, you can get your housework done in record time.

Here are our top tips for cleaning your home the fastest way possible.

Top 10 tips to clean your home quickly (and thoroughly)

1. Create a routine

Although it may make house cleaning sound even more boring, creating a routine is best. It’s best to tackle each chore at a time (e.g. all dusting, all bathrooms etc.) rather than stopping & starting with each room. Once you’ve nailed your routine, you’ll find your cleaning is much quicker.

2. Have all your cleaning products ready

It’s much quicker (and easier) if you have all your cleaning products ready. Pop everything in a carry container to make zipping from room to room much quicker. By having everything with you, you’ll save the extra trips back to the cleaning cupboard (unless you’re trying to get your step count up!).

3. Clear away the clutter

Before you start cleaning your home, it’s best to ensure everything is packed away and put back where it belongs. Things like magazines, shoes, and kitchen bits and pieces can make your space look untidy. Put these ‘extras’ away first, and you’ll find that you’ll clean rooms quicker and look tidier once you’re finished.

4. Dust from the top down

Dust settles, so when you start dusting a room, start with the tall objects – ceiling fans, blinds, bookshelves, etc. As you flick the dust off things, it falls, so always begin high and work your way down. And always make dusting one of your first tasks (especially before vacuuming).

5. Disinfect your benches and sinks

Do a whizz around your home with disinfectant (wipes or liquid on a cloth) and wipe down all your benches, sinks, light switches, door handles, appliances, etc. Focus on all the areas regularly touched by those in your household and give them a quick wipe.

6. Tackle the bathrooms

A quick tip is to pop your toilet cleaner in the bowl while you wipe down the sinks, taps, bath and shower (leave the toilet for last). This allows it to work magic in the bowl, so you won’t have to scrub as hard. Depending on the state of your shower, you may also need to pre-spray a cleaning agent and let it settle in before scrubbing.

7. Battle your shower each day

Mould can be the hardest thing to keep out of your showers. When showering, make sure everyone turns on your exhaust fan. Then once you’ve finished showering, use a squeezy to wipe all the excess water from your walls and glass. You can also use a ‘spray and go’ shower cleaner to help prevent soap scum and mould from building up.

8. Vacuum before you mop

After you’ve dusted, vacuum your floors, working the room in a straight line to ensure you get the entire floor surface. A vacuumed floor makes mopping much easier as you’ll have picked up all the surface dust for a sparkling clean finish.

9. Get everyone involved

If you’ve got multiple people in your household, get them all involved in the house cleaning. Set chores and ensure you’re working as a team (e.g. one person dusts, then another follows with the vacuum). Have a set time every week and get it done. As the saying goes, ‘Many hands make light work’.

10. Hire a professional

The fastest way to clean your home is not to do it at all! If cleaning isn’t a job you’d prefer, or you simply don’t have enough time to clean thoroughly, you should consider using a professional cleaner. With little disruption to your home, an experienced cleaner can tackle all these chores.
